getting back to back comments where people refuse to even think about where I'm coming from, and getting them on videos where I put an insane amount of work in for relatively negligible reward is just an insanity-producing experience. truly maddening.

like, I think being a youtuber has taught me that whatever level of contempt I have for my readers, which used to be minimal to nonexistant, I should have way more. youtube commenters will watch your entire video and try to dispute something you said by raising multiple point addressed within the video and then act like that's your fault or that you're crazy for feeling talked down to.

honestly where are the tim pool fans when you need them? I'd rather get called a pedophile again than have to deal with people being insanely dismissive of this avatar essay without putting in any effort to understand where I was coming from

going to finish this jonathan chait rebuttal, record and edit all the essays to round out this month and the next month, and then some shorter stuff for september in advance before seeing where things stand.

Today's video essay is a response to fellow YouTuber Big Joel going over his take and my take on the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and how we differ. finally finished that script for the justpearlythings response. thought it might take a few days, realized it would be 20 pages instead of 5 or 10. upgraded it to a week, then two weeks after realizing it would hit 30 and now 40 pages. gonna be a good one.

similarly, restricting critiques to comparisons to asceticism makes for weak argumentation as it implies viewing the issue only through the lens of the spiritual or morality of consumption

I kinda don't understand how you can oppose degrowth universally by comparing it to austerity -- maybe other specific critiques and condemnations I could get -- because that implies you think economic relations can only be mediated through government restrictions/law

BTW if anybody has any resources on "mutual abuse" that involve actual statistical or empirical evidence I'd love to see it, basically everything I have that's reputable is clinicians' opinions saying "that shit's not real" but I'd like something that makes reference to data to complete the picture, if such a review exists

nice to have a bit of breathing room for now. next week's video is already scheduled. going into the library to do some final research for the one after that on monday, then going to record it and the patron video this week. finally on schedule schedule.

thinking about the possibility of reworking my old essay on the showa emperor of japan and exploring the issue of his culpability for japanese war crimes in ww2. would be an eventual future project.

incredibly defeating to work on extended researched videos just to get called a pedophile by a huge swarm of conservatives. it's an insane amount of work for almost zero payoff. no idea how long I am for this content creation game to be honest, this break was supposed to be fulfilling but it's just teaching me how little opportunity there is in this game. guess I'll keep trying but idk.

My hope is that if I make enough smart, well-crafted material about things I actually care about that isn't built on drama, then people will eventually gravitate towards it and my community can be a space that prioritizes those things. But for now it seems like leftist infighting and frequent uploads gets you the numbers, so it's going to be an effort to turn that around. But I want to, because I want that for myself and for my community. I just don't know how to get there.

NEW VIDEO! It's a very important day for us as we're dressing down Tim Pool's disgusting attempt to lie to Emma Vigeland and to his audience on his show. This one was a bit of work and required me to put my nose to the grindstone again. I hope everybody enjoys it, because along the way I found that it mattered to me a lot that people understood what happened in that conversation.
