If nothing else, Bluesky will serve as a quality filter for the fediverse in the same way Truth Social has.

Celebrities are largely dumb and need a platform that holds their hand, and they found fedi too confusing.

Since Bluesky aims to be a Twitter clone where the federation is a technical thing in the background rather than something they're forced to understand, they find it easier and will migrate there, leaving fedi's culture to continue as it has been
@exiliaex The plan is for it to federate within it's own protocol (called AtProtocol), but they haven't released the means to do so yet because they want to make sure moderation tools are feature complete.

It's basically a fedi alternative, so anyone can spin up their own bluesky server.

@eris imo fedi should mutate; force federate with bluesky. now is the time of monsters.

@eris i know nothing. is it possible to post via multiple protocols at once? that should become monstruously normal

@eris @exiliaex friendica posts to both ActivityPub (akkoma/mastodon), OStatus (old mastodon/gnu social) and Diaspora, so yes

but it seems like the atprotocol might be different structurally from those three

@f00fc7c8 @eris well, i support efforts to have the option to meld worlds

@exiliaex @f00fc7c8 @eris i'd like to see that honestly. i see this as being able to actually connect the internet one way or another. i find the internet in its current state to often be dehumanizing because in a lot of ways we seem to lack the connection and context for things on here. esp on sites that are driven by content algorithms and 240 characters. even in the real world people are often dehumanized and can often lack empathy but my point is that on the internet its a lot easier to lack empathy as we do not know most of our peers. we will never meet most of our peers. we are no different from being random strangers on the internet. the only difference is we see the extension of our true selves/personas we want people to see compared to just walking by a person that you'll never know or probably see again/remember. one thing i try to do is try to treat people similar to that how i would in the real world but its noticeably harder on the internet.

idk these are some of my thoughts on it. thanks for coming to my tedtalk

We should stay the hell away from twitterbrains, nothing good will come of it. Bluesky sounds like fedi except with none of the things that actually make it good.
@dushman @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex i am a twitter refugee myself but my point is that the internet by nature is that which is dehumanizing, esp on platforms that are algorithmically driven and limited by 240 or less characters. i have nothing against a large chunk of most twitter users but there are some who i obviously against a chunk of them as well.
@Mondobizarrro @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex
I never had a twitter account myself cuz I've always hated mainstream social media with a passion. I remember the days when topical forums were big and fedi captures that same sense of community for me. I don't want corporations and their armies of consumers to come over here and shit all over our culture.
@Mondobizarrro @eris @exiliaex @f00fc7c8
I don't want it to ever become mainstream, maybe that's elitist but whatever.
@dushman @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex to me it would be much more different compared to places like twitter where you are forced to play by there rules. a site owner can directly tailor their views and who and what gets seen so this wouldnt nearly be an issue. but having other bigger social media sites being able to interact with would also attract normies to a contained environment. im not super elitist (and i am often naive) but my thing is that i believe everyone should try to be connected with people to some extent. even tho i also can understand that people sometimes just need their own little space (both of which i can relate to) idk i see both sides here
@Mondobizarrro @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex
>but having other bigger social media sites being able to interact with would also attract normies to a contained environment

One can hope lol
@dushman @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex @Mondobizarrro
>same sense of community for me.

Feels more like early 2ch/ 4 chan to be frank
@Mondobizarrro @eris @dushman @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex
They are not much difference from any other mainstream social media nowadays.
@Shirei @eris @dushman @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex i just dislike most people still on imageboards today because its an endless cycle of taking the last set of user's jokes at face value then doubling down on them

Also i used a different set of boards as i mostly posted on /m/ which still holds a large chunk of the western mecha fandom (which has its own problems but isnt as bad as /a/ because theyll watch older anime not named neon genesis evangelion) thanks to twitter and other social media i wouldnt have met other mecha fans my age compared to the older guard from toonami era/fansubbers/and co.
@Mondobizarrro @eris @dushman @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex
Thematical is always better, because there people have some common thing and purpose of their presence. It's the same on Fediverse.
@Mondobizarrro @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex
>internet by nature is that which is dehumanizing

At least fedi is less so in my opinion. Feels cozy compared to the commoditised hellscape of the modern mainstream internet.
@dushman @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex my point that the internet in its current state is dehumanizing is more geared at the big social media and commodified hellsites. and less places like fedi where people can express themselves more. same reason why i adore neocities
@Mondobizarrro @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex
That is true. I'm old enough to have experienced the decline into its current state. It made me virulently oppose any attempts by corporations to infiltrate spaces that have so far been spared from the same fate.
@Mondobizarrro @eris @exiliaex @f00fc7c8
Divide and conquer. Turn everything into a prodct and extract the maximum amount of profit.
@Mondobizarrro @eris @exiliaex @f00fc7c8
Can't sleep so I'm being insane on fedi. tl;dr capitalism corrodes culture and fractures communities.
@dushman @eris @f00fc7c8 @exiliaex despite being terminally online since 2005 at the age of 3 i typically only used the internet to watch cartoons on YT or play flashgames for most of it so i never noticed the decline until well into the 2010s when all the yt videos i used to watch were suddenly in worse quality or removed with no warning
