@exiliaex there's already been long discourse on this! thatcher & the coal mines. was it good the mines shut down? absolutely. but those miners suffered. there have been many alternatives proposed, retraining programmes, free adult education, welfare cheques, etc. unfortunately none of these have happened. i hope to see a day where even one of these types of policies are implemented.
