@exiliaex iirc the crypto thing was what bluesky was originally supposed to become but that ended when bsky was spun off from a twitter skunkworks and Dorsey left

@exiliaex From what I heard he was funding both at the same time? or at least was involved with both at once or has been at once. not sure where he is with Bluesky but yes he has been with nostr as far as I remember

@exiliaex dorsey quit bluesky yeah, although afaik it still is mostly funded by X and has no real plan for financial stability. nostr is a uniquely terrible entity that seems to be “what if 4chan was even less moderated, and more like twitter, oh and we all still like NFTs”, despite its allegedly interesting cryptographic system (?)

@exiliaex upon closer reading i’m not sure it is anymore – there’s a verge article from post-musk acquisition saying that it was still funded through twitter at that point, but I think they fully cut ties not long after that. My mistake. Now it’s VC funded, which is perhaps less terrible but not significantly better IMO. They have to repay that $8MM somehow, and that’s not going to come from domain royalties
