So LA said they wouldn't enforce Grant's Pass or the governor's order to clear out all the homeless encampments, but today every homeless encampment that's normally on my walk home was empty with yellow tape around it

I feel like the city said one thing and did another
I'm sure some of them will get permanent housing but a lot of times the folks just disappear, probably moving to other cities. Not much of a solution. Shelters can only take so many people

@eris at least they won’t simply freeze overnight there like they do in lots of places

@destroy sadly that is a lot of the deaths here in the winter when it rains, and then now it's overheating 😢
@destroy yeah it's depressing that the whole government is forcing LA to act like every other city on homelessness. Like what's left for people in need because it's not going to fix anything
@eris @destroy And all because the Supreme Court said "Hey. It's constitutional for local and state governments to make being homeless illegal." Man, some politicians who call themselves progressive are more like conservatives trying to keep up with trends instead of having real moral values.
@seanking @destroy my favorite is the LA housing authority being like "Well it's such a complex problem, who knows how to fix homelessness"

Housing.
Not hotel rooms, not shelters. Everyone knows this. Lol. This is common sense I fear

@eris @seanking literally just build public housing. It’s not complicated governments all over the world do it all the time

@destroy @seanking Yeah right now all the non-luxury apartment buildings are contained to Koreatown and Hollywood and the landlords are allowed to be insanely picky. Gotta make 3x the rent for a $1800 studio with no kitchen.

In any other city I see apartments actually fairly spread out across the city
