@emilia-miki @azureazure yeah I guess that perception probably has a lot to do with westoids being like "everyone that isn't us is le bad and nazis/totalitarians/islamic fundamentalists, unlike the west which is the BASTION of PROGRESSIVISM and FREEDOM" when from the sound of it in Europe for instance some of the worst far right organizing is happening in the west. not to mention all the Israel support

also tbh #1 is a thing here too, we just call it "lobbying" instead and then it's totally fine and a different thing trust me the media which is also definitely not a propaganda apparatus said so

@nyx @emilia-miki @azureazure Yeah you get stickers if you donate to the policeman’s association. If you don’t have those stickers or if your local patrol officers know they can’t get free stuff at your store they get awfully slow at responding to robberies.

@nyx @destroy @azureazure @emilia-miki Yeah... I know a bunch of Americans including business owners and it's basically nonsense. Sure the police will be corrupt in some places but acting like it's a super common thing just doesn't stand up.

In comparison though, my Eastern European friends at university did say that helping police was expected (like helping them move homeless people on) if you didn't want to have suspicion on you and that bribing police was common place. In fact the Romanian guy literally said he came on the course so he could get a good salary and bribe the police.

@emilia-miki @azureazure @arcana @nyx it was like this when I lived in Idaho, too. The sheriff drove confiscated sports cars as personal vehicles and my stepdad got fired for arresting the son of a one of the town aristocrats after he got into a bar fight.

@destroy @emilia-miki @azureazure @nyx Police confiscate cars all over the world as personal vehicles, it's not unique there. Also yeah, some places will be corrupt, very much so, but again, this occurs all over the world.

That said, I do think arresting somebody for a bar fight is very silly. Mutual combat sure be a right.

Though it's not just the elites, they also give special treatment to family members too. You think that police who arrest people in places like North Korea or Iran also don't give preferential treatment to elites? It's a universal thing since the dawn of time.
