@roundtit it depends on what you want to use it for, tbh. as far as i can tell its pretty secure! but im still trying to learn more
@exiliaex probably the same thing i use my twitter private for, posting selfies and whining 😵💫
@exiliaex i just don’t trust twitter to uh. remain a viable spot to keep doin that for much longer, so i’m looking to fill that niche elsewhere
@sadie @roundtit i will double check privacy stuff so i can be confident in speaking on exactly how it works (especially since i plan on updating our instance to one that has even more kinds of privacy settings i.e. being able to have local-only posts and things of that nature)
as the admin of this instance i technically have the ability to like, read everything posted on the instance, including DMs. it's not something i know how to do right now, and its not really something i'm planning on learning how to do because this is a server for my friends. but, yknow, just wanna be upfront about what power i have here wrt privacy.
but, keep in mind that *other* admins will be able to read what is sent to their instance, (like if you DM someone on their instance) even if it's private.
if you want tho you can find software built on this stuff that runs just non-federating local spaces, and those are valid
