what’s the uh, what’s the viability of having a private account on mastodon. is that a thing people do. is that worth doing. is it -secure?-

@roundtit it depends on what you want to use it for, tbh. as far as i can tell its pretty secure! but im still trying to learn more

@exiliaex probably the same thing i use my twitter private for, posting selfies and whining 😵‍💫

@roundtit @exiliaex ironically I keep my Twitter for my private posting because of the Circles feature.

Mastodon doesn't encrypt anything so everything you post is pretty public, unless you make your own instance and intentionally lock it down

@eris @roundtit yeah, as the admin here, a lot of the work i want to do is to be able to lock shit down for me and my friends here lmao

@exiliaex @roundtit The best way to do this is to turn on "authenticated fetch mode" in the config.yml
This basically makes it so your instance has to sign off on all post fetch requests, so instances you block can't get your posts at all.

Probably one of the few things Mastodon gets right
