is there a technical limitation preventing a version of mastodon that would let you select from a list of known instances to federate with per post?
@exiliaex I think part of the problem is communicating the intention to other servers. they'd have to know not to federate it, not to allow boosts. Maybe making it a followers-only post then limiting to an audience of servers would work. seems like a very useful idea

@eris yeah like a twitter circle but instances instead of accounts
@exiliaex you can already use DMs for federating with certain accounts only so no reason it couldn't be possible for instances
@exiliaex that would be nice though i would not trust it to keep anything private.
