Racism is a complex, permeating issue. As a rule of thumb if a black or indigenous person calls you out for racism, you should stop and listen.

No one is free from racist bias in a racist society, and the societies we have in Latin America, the USA or any former colonial State are heavily marked by our racist colonial history. Even if "you don't feel you're being racist", taking a moment to stop and think about what's being said should be enriching.

@argumento i largely agree with this. though, sometimes people truly do weaponize terms like "racist" or "transphobe" or whatever - one time i posted a selfie on twitter in which i referred to myself as a "boi" (for genderfuck reasons) and a certain clique latched onto it and said that "boi" is aave, and thus, i had done a racism by calling myself that.

that clique was known for weaponizing terms like racist in order to discredit others, especially trans people. it's important to check ourselves when someone comes to us with an honest complaint, but it's also important to recognize how people try to game social interactions in bad faith.

Yes, I get you. Maybe I should have included that indeed any marginalized identity can be weaponized. RN I'm kind of focusing my reading in racism and colonialism, so I'm in that loop.

Calling the use of "boi" racist was a stretch, ROFL.
