okay so a friend told me about the app "iNaturalist" and it seems to have fulfilled quite a bit of what i was thinking of. i'll be trying it out for a bit.

i was going to go to yellowstone a few days after my birthday for like a week - and i was real nervous about flying there, almost making me not even want to go... but the trip got cancelled and now there's no flight to be nervous about and my brain is like "damn wish i could've gone" - so stupid lololol
@aoanla damn birthday week got hands
now if only i had any programming skills (it said to itself, knowing that it worked as a software dev for 5 years)
i'm thinking of building a map tool with user generated data for urban citizen ecological/environmental science. seeing https://hoodmaps.com has made me realize what might be possible.
@mimosa the worst coding decision is that now literally everything is based off of FPS, its breaking so much
@mimosa the content is relatively good and cool - but there seems to have been NO quality checks. huuuuuge bugs have emerged because of bad coding decisions.
@pawsplay pollsters do a few different things to determine likely voters, past-voting is only part of it. but each group of pollsters weighs different factors differently. some, i'm sure, weight 'past voting' far higher than anything else.
i am so routinely frustrated at people who are all "noooo don't interact with wild animals in any way" - i don't understand how anyone can watch the Forward March Of Progress as it eliminates species after species, radically decreasing the biodiversity of ecosystem after ecosystem as it translates all organic production into Value and still say "actually leaving out water for critters is bad" - "actually feeding critters is bad" - "actually talking to critters is crazy"
i promise you, developing a relationship with the life around you will make you see the world in radically new ways and open your eyes to new possibilities, new ways to live that don't push every life but Humanity's to extinction.
@asa they're just wild neighborhood crows, but yeah, i've been forming a relationship with them for over a year now and they've brought me a few things, not many (mostly food related)
A wandering deer, building shrines along the way.
